When you really look at all that is required for wood fence maintenance, it’s not bad at all and you only do it every few years or so.. You may be surprised to see that most of the time it is quick and easy, but there are some things that are somewhat major. Roughly every 3 to 5 years you want to renew the stain on your fence, but it really will depend on the climate conditions, etc. You can stain the fence when you first get it, or you can buy the wood stained from the factory – suggested.

Fence Inspection

One of the more unusual encounters with fence maintenance is finding a beehive or nest on it, and this is not unusual at all because it’s the corners of the rails and posts that attract them. If this should happen, then you can take appropriate measures as you know.

Now you can understand the need for inspecting the fence once in a while. You know what will happen if you fail to catch this, the home they have made will become large and then they are all over the place. Then what about your dog? You see, there are many reasons for being punctual about inspecting your fence.

Metal Connections

Taking care of the metal connections will be something that cannot be overlooked, and this is quite typical for wooden fences. Perhaps what will make the biggest difference here is your climate as some are harsher than others. It is super easy to take care of this, and you do not even have to be any kind of mechanic or that sort of thing, etc. Give your gate an inspection just like you would the rest of the fence, and you do have a scheduled inspection program created – right?

Cleaning

Hopefully, your wood fence arrived with a pristine and high-quality stain applied all over it, and it’s good idea to inspect your new fence and make sure all is OK. After that, you should give your fence a thorough cleaning and application of stain in about 4 years and no more than 5 years. But if you do this on your own, do not hurry it because you can apply it too thinly which sets you up for difficulties later on. Then during the warmer months, you can do a good washing down and then inspect for damage and other hard to see issues.

Proper care and maintenance of your wood fence should become part of your schedule for property upkeep. It is easy to become complacent about these things, and that is one of the dangers you have to avoid. Be sure you take this as far as you can because there are more things to learn and know.
